AHSC #234

Sketch is a little challenging but a lot of fun! Sitting on my craft table I had some leftover vellum leaves that I decided to use for my image. Behind the leaf with the gold overlay are 2 smaller vellum leaves I decided to attach with my Xyron. I'm not sure if I would use this technique again or not. I love the new CTMH bow die cut! This has been attached with mini glue dots.
I hope you'll decide to join AHSC this week.

Here is the sketch...

Tips for using vellum...

Tip #1..cut your images with a fine point blade.
Tip the gold overlay through your Xyron and adhere to the vellum.

Tip #3... for the card you see below I used mini glue dots at the bottom and top if each leaf to attached them to the card front.

Sometimes a birthday card becomes a book!

This week my nephew Jason celebrated his 21st birthday. Sensing this may be my last chance to be sure I've shared all the wisdom and encouragement I want him to always remember I decided to make him a little book. By design there are 21 pages. These are the times I'm grateful for my stash of stamps I've accumulated over the past 11 years!
From now until Feb there will be 3 more young birthdays ranging in age from 12 to 19, this book was so much fun to do I'm going to make one for the other 3 kids too!
My cover was inspired by this week's Atlantic Hearts Sketch and was the perfect design. I left the chipboard "raw" for the casual guy look I wanted and choose the red stripe paper since red has always been Jason's favorite color.
Happy 21st Jason!

AHSC 232

I really love the sketch this week so I decided to follow it exactly. In my stamp stash I found a border stamp that matched perfectly. I used the shamrock on the Flower Market cartridge but only cut the pop up leaves. I cut them from the new 2 tone cardstock so I could layer them for the alternate dark / light effect. To finish it off I punch a circle from silver foil paper and stamped my sentiment.

I hope you will be inspired to join this week's AHSC, here is the sketch...

AHSC #228 With Graditude

I really like the Sept Stamp of the Month! My card was inspired by the stamp set and  week's sketch even though it doesn't match the sketch perfectly. I used Fern ink to stamp the sentiment on the Kraft paper but I think New England Ivy might have been a better choice.
I hope you'll decide to use the sketch and join us this week, your art can be a card, a scrapbook page or anything else that follows the sketch.

September Stamp of the Month - Feel So Blessed

This stamp set is perfect for so many projects - below is a card that can be used for a man's birthday.
You can get this stamp set for only $5 when you make a $50 purchase.

I stamped borders of the card then added a piece of black cardstock. the feathers are stamped on one of new basics stripe papers and cut out. The arrow is cut from silver foil paper with an image from the new You Are Here CTMH Cricut cartridge.
I plan on making several projects with this stamp set so please check back often to see what else I've created.

Hello - AHSC # 226

I love the new CTMH You Are Here Circuit cartridge because it appears to be designed for scrapbooking vacation travels but it has so many images that can be used in different ways. I also wanted to use this sticker for the sentiment on my card. So I opened up Design Space and started choosing images to cut. Here is how I laid them out on my screen...
The circle was a little larger than the sketch intended but I really didn't want my smallest flower to be much smaller. I've learned that the thin overlays are best adhered to the base image with a glue pen. The white space in the corners was a little too plain so I stamped some flourishes with Linen ink to finish my card.

Here is this weeks sketch. I hope you'll decide to create something and share on the Atlantic Heart Sketch Challenge.

Created to Create

It's so fun to make a card that I get to deliver in person because I can decorate the envelope too!
The roses you see here are from the Beautiful You stamp set. Each flower is a layer of 3 stamps and they come in 3 sizes. The stamp set comes with a set of thin cut dies and there are also 3 different leaf stamps.
My final touch was to use the shimmer brush on each rose.
The Created to Create stamp is new too. I plan on experimenting with this as a background stamp in my next project.
The colors I used for the roses are Bashful, Pixie and Raspberry
The colors I used for the leaves are Fern and New England Ivy

AHSC # 220 Thanks so much

For this card I decided to use neutral papers and a sticker instead of a flower stamp, it's fun to use up that last sticker on the sheet! Sponging would have been a nice touch on the banner piece and the scalloped oval.

I hope you'll visit the AHSC blog and join this week's challenge.

I love how this card turned out!

I've been published!

It was so much fun to find a complimentary copy of the June issue of Stampington & Co Take Ten magazine in my mail yesterday, I never know when I'm being published or which of my cards have been selected. But this time my card is featured as the sketch for the We Challenge You feature! How exciting!

This is actually an ice cream cone wrapper featured on my card. Seems I'm always saving silly things that remind me of a fun day. Small indulgences should be treasured, these silly reminders usually end up on my craft table and sometimes they become part of my art. I hope you take time to indulge yourself, we all need a little joy in our days.

I can't wait to see the cards readers submit in future issues.

Thank you Stampington & Co!

Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge # 212

Hello Everyone,
I have joined the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge Design Team and this is my first submission as a Design Team member!
This card was so simple! It's so fun when you have papers and accents that coordinate perfectly. And I didn't even get out a stamp pad! I hope you'll follow my journey with the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge group. I met Michelle Stewart at the Close to My Heart annual convention almost 4 years ago and I have really enjoyed keeping in touch with her and participating in these challenges. I hope to inspire you to submit your own creations every week, just click here to visit the AHSC blog.

AHSC # 196 - sending Smiles

I'm packed for a crop tomorrow but had some scraps from my last card sitting on my table. I love this shell stamp set but it calls for something like coloring with markers or painting with watercolors and I haven't taken the time for that yet. But I wondered what happens if I stamp on a piece of printed paper? So I gave it a try and rather liked it. Now that my card is together I would make one change, I would switch places with  the Sea Glass colored cardstock and the printed paper. I wanted a weathered look so I sanded the Sea Glass and Cocoa cardstocks with the coarse grit sanding block.

Hope you'll give this week's sketch a try...

Thinking of you...

I've been wanting to create a card with the Swirly Seashells stamp set. My initial inspiration for the arrangement came from this week's AHSC sketch, but it turns out I really didn't follow the sketch at all!

Sunday, January 15, 2017

In my January1st post below I showed you a leftover 9.5 inch chipboard circle from the Welcome Home Wreath Kit, well here is what I've created with it! I used both the gold and silver shimmer pens on the roses and leaves. The colors are Canary, Glacier, White Daisy, Sweet Leaf and New England Ivy.
